How can devotion change the world?

Walking down the street, you encounter a folded piece of paper on the sidewalk. You pick it up and read it and immediately, your life has changed.

“I am devoted to you now, and I will be devoted to you forever and ever.” the paper reads.

Think of the last time you felt someone was truly devoted to you. It changed how you felt about yourself didn’t it? All of a sudden you meant something to someone, and your life seemed to hold more purpose, because you had a partner who was willing to help you make things better.

What about the last time you felt devoted to someone? Why were you devoted? You probably felt an itch; a simmering desire to make a change in someone’s life, to make life a little less of a burden for someone. Even if all you can remember is holding a door open or giving a compliment, you probably DID change the world in a moment of devotion to somebody.

What about G-d? How is He devoted to us? Well He created us, and every day He sustains us and keeps us alive. That sure is devotion! He gives us signs of His love daily, from the people He sends into our lives to the ideas He plants in our heads to make both our lives and the world a better place.

We can be devoted to Him too, and the rest of the world, by doing our best to walk with Him authentically and with integrity, and by giving Him what He asks of us, and doing for the world what we know in our heart we were born to do.

Devotion. You’ve already picked up that card. It was given to you the day you were born. He promised to never leave you, and He didn’t. He gave you what you needed to fulfill your purpose, and to this day, He still has not stopped.
